“NOT Just a Girl” by Jamie Moore Photography
This is so beautiful it had me near tears. A talented photographer wanted to document her daughter’s fifth birthday, but instead of dressing her up as a Disney Princess as many of her peers were doing, she decided to draw inspiration from real heroines of history. The photos, quotes, and overall attitude are so inspirational. Especially the “Emma for President 2044” image. I love diving into fantasy worlds, but this reminded me that we don’t always have to look to fiction to find a hero.
My daughter wasn’t born into royalty, but she was born into a country where she can now vote, become a doctor, a pilot, an astronaut, or even President if she wants and that’s what REALLY matters. I wanted her to know the value of these amazing women who had gone against everything so she can now have everything. We chose 5 women (five amazing and strong women), as it was her 5th birthday but there are thousands of unbelievable women (and girls) who have beat the odds and fought (and still fight) for their equal rights all over the world……..so let’s set aside the Barbie Dolls and the Disney Princesses for just a moment, and let’s show our girls the REAL women they can be.

Lady and the Tramp 1955My favorite Disney animation is not about a princess, but dogs eating spaghetti. That must tell something about my expectations in life. I don’t expect a prince, a castle, or to live happily ever after, but just a couple of dogs and some nice pasta.
